Youth Leadership Development, with skateboards

In September 2018 I collaborated with Gooseboards Skateboards from NZ to run a series of skateboard making workshops that developed youth leadership skills.

Youth from Devonport and Tasmania were invited to make a cruiser skateboard, in the style of Gooseboards, using Tasmanian Blackwood as the deck, and shaping it however they wanted. Each person ended the workshops with a ready to ride skateboard. The team from Gooseboards were amazing, supporting everyone to explore what was possible and guiding them through the making process.

The workshops ended with a one day conference on innovation. Key speakers were Ryan and Jared from Gooseboards, speaking on innovation and small business; Hannah Alexander from Our Year Outdoors speaking on education and play; and myself on leading long term projects where passion is the driver. There was also a panel discussion on how to negotiate.
